Artesian Park ARTESIAN PARK
CHAPARRAL & TWIGG STREETS

This is one of the oldest parks in the State to be deeded and dedicated as a public park. Encamped on this site between 1845 and 1846, General Zachary Taylor's soliders dug an artesian sulphur well. The well and campsite were later donated to the city, by the town site's founder, Captain Henry L. Kinney. In the early 1900s, a bandstand, a drinking fountain, and walkways were added to the site. The Daughters of the Republic dedicated the artesian fountain to Taylor’s men.
